Watermelon Basket

How to create the watermelon basket

For starters you want to pick a seedless watermelon for this project, especially if you are making the basket for a party or festivity. People enjoy the watermelon better without seeds in certain settings. You can also use a regular watermelon for the purposes of making the basket. It will render a longer boat looking basket, but it gets the job done as well. To start you want to wash off the watermelon to prevent cross-contamination. Then dry it and take a marker and make two lines on each side but not touching each other. You want to make the marks higher than the cord circle where the vine  was connected to the watermelon. Cut through those lines remember not to cut all the way through so that you can make your handle. Take off those two pieces and you will reveal where the handle will be. Once you see you basket handle you are going to cut out the watermelon from the handle part and continue cutting out the watermelon from the inside. You cut lines down then across and scoop them out in sections so you can later cut them into chunks or pieces. Once you have remove the insides, take a spoon and scoop out all of the remaining red that you see in the inside. You want to get most of it out, if not when you make your fruit salad inside of it it will be really watery. Next take your knife and cut a v pattern all around the melon and on the handle part. If you are not using it right away, you can wrap it with Saran wrap and keep it in the fridge for a few days or until you are ready to fill with a fruit medley. Now go ahead and wow your friends or guests at your next function. Enjoy!
